Suporting voice-hearers in the process of trying to understand their own personal experience and to change the relationship with voices.
A choice might be to work through the Maastricht Interview.
Aarhus Model:
The Aarhus Model, as it became known in Denmark, was initially a project started in 2003 following a conference I attended about the Maastricht approach.
Marius Romme, Sandra Escher and Ron Coleman introduced their ways of working with voices – an approach that made so much sense to me and it was inevitable that I would attempt to introduce the ideas into social-psychiatric services.
After much resistance and criticism, a range of self-help tools and supports were slowly implemented.
A great deal of the success of the venture was down to the fact that many courageous voice-hearers spoke publicly, not only validating the approach, but also illuminating the glaring lack of help/effective treatment which they had previously been offered.
